There is an excitement in the air at my school. In a few days, the kids will be there with their new bookbags and new shoes, their notebooks filled with blank sheets of wide-ruled lined paper, colored pencils, #2 pencils, 8 bold color markers and maybe some fine point markers, too. The teachers are there with their own hopes and dreams for the year as well, some having twenty years of teaching behind them, some more than ten years, others less than ten, and a few just starting out their first year.
Though we have different backgrounds, different family structures, some are married and some are single, and we come from different parts of the state or the country, with different perspectives of what it means to live in this world and in these times, we all have one thing in common: we want to learn. We love to learn. We live to learn. You might have thought I was going to say we love to teach, but it is the learning we love more.
