DisneyWorld vacation?

We're planning a DisneyWorld vacation for one week this summer. I don't know where to stay, but I want to stay somewhere on site, where we can park the car and leave it, and ride the shuttle to and from the park each day. If any of you bloggers have a favorite recommendation, I'll be considering them.

It's just me and my husband. We're looking in the moderate price range for motels. We'd like to have maybe three or four days to visit the parks, and then we'll probably do some beach hopping on our way back home.

Yes, we're driving, despite gas costs. So if you have a favorite place you'd like to tell me about, email me or leave it in the comments. Thank you!

Well, granted, we haven't been there in almost 20 years, but basically, on site is very expensive.  Onsite there are a lot of Disney-owned properties now, some cheaper than others, with I think the two All-Star resorts at the affordable end, and the Grand Floridian at the high end. Some of the larger chains have something sort-of on site, which i probably a little cheaper than the Disney branded ones.  There are packages that include shuttles from offsite hotels, and I think Downtown Disney is kind of a middle ground in price.  Mind you, though, I've been completely out of the travel business for a year, and away from actually travel agenting for over a decade.

My recommendation: either use a travel agent, or read through the Walt Disney Travel Company material to get the lay of the land, and then use another web site, travel agent or tour company to try to beat Disney's price. I think Disney actually has some good deals right now, so you may end up using WDTC anyway.

Have fun!  I wish I could come along!

Woo hoo - Disney World is one of my fav places of all! Of course I love everything Disney anyway :) You are going to have so much fun. I'd definitely stay on site. Lots of perks - free parking, transportation, get in early and you don't have to waste your time driving back and forth. I'll e-mail you some more info. When are you planning to go?
