Sidebar logo

I just added a new 'logo' to my sidebar. It says Wanderer.

I didn't design it. The other day, as I was driving down the highway, on my way home to get my forgotten wallet (I do want to forget the incident, but I had such a good day despite the rough start that Saturday!), I found myself driving behind this vehicle:

I thought it was a truck. I never did see it from the side or front. I just saw the logo "Wanderer Wagon" on the rear. I grabbed my camera and snapped the photo.

Several days later, meaning today, I decided to look up Wanderer Wagon to find out what it was. Here it is... an RV!

So I took the photo and played with the colors, saturation, and light. I made several images of the word Wanderer, in different colors. Just for fun. I'll keep it for a few days. Just wanted y'all to know that I did not create the logo, just borrowed it for my screen name.

I like the image of the mountains with the name, but if we ever get an RV, I think I'd like the cabin-style RV. It's a fantasy of sorts that both my husband and I share, to be able to drive across our great land and visit the various communities of Americans living in the different regions and climates.

But with the cost of gas... I can't see that happening any time soon.

I wonder if any of the J-land readers own an RV? And if so, when was the last time you traveled in it? Where did you go?

What would you recommend to someone (like moi) who is interested in seeing North America by RV somewhere near retirement age? What kind of RV do you drive?

Either write in comment section or write a blog entry and leave me the link.

I'm serious... really want to know more about RV traveling from folks that have done it.

Thanks!

BTW, I can't remember who sent this to me several months ago ... was it you Penny? Sugar? When I saved it, I didn't think to look to see if anyone's name was on it, like Chris' or Donna's. Let me know if it was you. Thank you who ever designed it...  I love the gold glitter.

Today was my first day back in school. Kids start back on the 27th.

I love the logo! In my opinion, you did design it. You made it distinctively yours. I've always had a dream about taking off to see the country in an RV. Please publish any info that you receive in your journal.--Sheria

Understand completely your
(and your husband's) desire
to view our huge land up close.
Away from cities Americans are
much kinder, sweeter, humorous
and entertaining as I'm certain you
already know. When I remember
the gambles I took when a teenager
hitch hiking I literally cringe in fear.
That was long ago; I was an object
of curiosity not the other.  You're
still young enough, you and your
husband to motorcycle across America.
Do you ride? The countryside seems
closer from a bike. For safety you
could dress as a man. Ha ha ha.
I simply mean to convey I really 'get'
your itch to travel, see, experience,
and take tons of photos! Ha!

Barry
I had a Norton (English) when
in college. I rode from Boston to
NYC often. A girl. One time in CT, riding into a
dip in the road I hit ice: bike
and deposed rider went horizontal
pronto, sliding, separating. Not a scratch!
On bike or rider. God is kind.
Zero traffic also helped.

My wife and I also share the desire to get an RV and travel the country.  Who knows, maybe it will happen for all of us eventually.

Love the graphic on the sidebar :)  Graphic at bottom is not mine... sorry.. it's cute tho!!!  As for RVing.. my parents did it for years after Dad retired.  They had one like 21 foot I think...  room for extra peeps if need be.  I can get some additional info you if you'd like.  They did most of the country.....  they loved it!!

I read a book once called Boondockers about a retired couple and the small child they were guardian of -- traveling and living in a RV/camper/trailer thing.  It didn't sound fun to me, but the book was good.

Great logo!  You have many hidden talents!  I would love to have an RV.  We went with my cousin to an RV sales place this summer when I was home and there were so many beautiful ones to choose from.  I spent many an hour dreaming about having one.  It would be great!

I have ALWAYS wanted an RV, or motorhome as we call them over here. My husband and I have been to America three times together and I went once with my daughter, this year when we were in California he said we would go to a place that sells them to look them over, we never did, too much other stuff to look at!  He has promised me though, that when he retires in four years time, we will rent one and drive the length of Route 66 and also wherever our fancy takes us for as long as we want!  Now I'm pretty much a home-bird and don't like to be away from home too long, holidays for one week are fine by me! America though I always enjoy the three weeks we are there but I'm not sure about any longer, it might be different if we are in an RV and seeing all these wonderful places we've only dreamt about.  I look forward to hearing what others have to say too, perhaps you need to write up a whole entry about it! Who knows, maybe we could have a joint J-Landers holiday in RVs!!  Love, Pat   http://journals.aol.co.uk/pm71blackfen/ramblings-from-pat/

Like you I would love to experience this mode of travel.  My son's  in-laws  hired one last year to tour Scotland, as they had the same keen interest in buying one to travel around our beautiful British Isles.   They thoroughly enjoyed it and now own one.  They now take great delight, in their retirement, in popping off when it suits them for days or weeks at a time.  They are very 'Happy Wanderers'.  Lol!

P.S. I like your new logo by the way.  I forgot to mention that before in my reply.  I am also leaving behind my journal address as you have asked of me before.  Sorry.     I keep forgetting to leave it Bea.  Your journal is always such a good read I forget to do it when I leave it.  You never fail to give me food for thought when I visit.
Bye for now!

I've always fancied an RV, or motor home to travel around.  On our recent tour of America we finally opted for car hire and motels, as we were told by friends the cost of fuel was expensive, and in many places you have to prebook sites - we certainlly saw evidence of that, especially around the various National Parks, where camps sites were fully booked out - mind you we also saw 3 rV's at the top of a mountain, with no others in site, where they had just pulled off the road and camped

How awesomely cool was that! Nice to have found a ready made logo with your journal title. As for RV'ing, I'm more the type of person who would rather be in a tent and as close to nature as I can get. I somehow don't see my perspective changing as I get older either. To me camping or traveling is something I would rather challenge the elements with and be one with it all. I have never been one for creature comforts. The more rugged the more I'm loving it. Bea, that is so clever.  When we make tags we just put things together that artists create and then adjust the light and effects, etc.  RV's.....my dad has a 32 ft motor home that my ex and I used for vacations.  The three children were small so it was perfect because there was so much to keep them occupied at the campgrounds.  We stayed on the East coast :(  My ex was not very cooperative.  We did go to the OuterBanks quite a few times and camped right on the beach at Hatteras and Ocracoke.  We went to Sandbridge at Va. Beach.  We travelled through the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, the Shenendoah Valley in Va.  The gas mileage is pathethic.  We got 8 or 9 miles to the gallon on level highways;  at best, 4 or 5 through the mountains.  Travelling with gas prices now would be an expense.  Motor homes are nice but one problem with them is most people tow a car; we usually rented one we stayed for a few days in one spot.  Otherwise, you have to completely undo the sewage, electricity, etc. and secure everything to just make short side trips and then hook up again after your sightseeing.  I'm thinking I would have preferred towing a big trailer.  LOL...feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.  I have many photos but no scanner.  It was a beauty.  Chris

Hi Bea,
We used to own a pop-up, and we truly enjoyed it. My in-laws are retired and travel about in this huge drive along with a pop out side. They tow a small car, too. They travel an awful lot. They truly enjoy themselves, but at night, they pull in to a parking lot type of camp ground, plug in, turn on the air conditioning and watch TV. We'd like to travel like that someday, although I'd prefer to stay with the pop-up. We could plug in like my inlaws do, but we could also camp in places that were closer to nature. Some places have huge restrictions on trailer sizes, electrical hookups, sewers, etc. I think we could truly enjoy the outdoors more because we didn't have air or TV.
