A very sad day.

I am so sad... so very sad. I still can't believe it has happened.

He seemed okay this morning. By 9 a.m this morning, his back legs wouldn't work. Took him to the vet. She examined him, thought it was a back problem, prescribed pain killer and anti-inflammatory drugs.

I gave him his meds between 12:30 and 1:30. By 3:00 pm we could tell he was in dire shape. He was heavily panting, and his tongue looked purple. We took him to the Emergency Animal Hospital.

By 4 pm the doctor was telling me he was in bad shape, that he looked like a dog about to check out. They put him on oxygen right away. He did some bloodwork, gave him something to help with possible anaphylactic shock. Took a chest xray. There was fluid in his lungs. Max had a seizure at some point, they put him on oxygen, said he would have to spend the night at the animal hospital, they would call us at 9:00 to let us know of his condition.

We went back to the patient room to see Max and tell him we were leaving, to tell him we'd be back, that we wanted him to get better. It was about 4:15 or so.

We drove home. I jumped in the shower. When I got out, Steve said to get dressed. They had called and told us to come get him. He was gone. Just like that. He might have had a stroke. I am heart-broken... we are both going to miss him. Misty is going to miss him.

I can't write any more. It all happened so fast. I'm still in shock.

Hi Bea,
Joann left an entry on the Call for Support journal, and I am very sorry to hear that Max has unexpectedly passed over the Rainbow Bridge. Losing a pet is like losing a member of close family, as I know only too well. Wishing you strength at this sad time,

Guido

Bea, I am so very, very sorry about Max.  I can remember the very first entry that I ever read in your journal was about Max and Misty.  You had just clipped them, and you were sharing some gorgeous pictures of them.  I put your journal on alerts right then and there and have been visiting ever since.  So in a small, small way I feel like he is gone from my life as well.  It is so very devastating to lose a beloved pet, and though none of us can take away or even ease your grief, I hope it helps a bit to know that we know how it feels and are aching for you.  Please take care!

Bea, I am so very sorry to hear about Max.  What a beautiful dog he was and I know how sad you must be.  ((((hugs))))  Our pets are so very important to us.  They ask for nothing and give so very much love in return.  My heart and prayers go out to you.  I, for one, believe that our animals go to Heaven and you will be reunited with him one day.
love,
Marie

Dear Bea, I am so sorry for your loss. You have written about and shared photos of Max and he was such a charmer. I know that there are no words that can ease your sorrow. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. --Sheria

Oh Bea I am SO sorry!  I know how much he meant to you.  This is a heartbreaking time, especially when it is as unexpected as this was. My heart, thoughts and prayers are with you, my friend. ~ Caroline ~

Remember me always, but do not grieve for me too long. I have tried always to comfort you in times of sorrow, and have made every effort to add joy to your life. I never wanted to cause you pain.
Peace for me is certain now, and I suspect I will have eternal sleep in the earth I have loved so well.
Please, after your period of grieving for me, make room in your heart for another. You are the kind of human being that should always have a friend like me to love. Your kind and gentle heart should not be wasted on my memory for too long. Give your love to another. I know your new friend will never take my place, because we had something very special. It may not be quite the same, but a new devoted and loving companion will in time, become special in their own way. You loved me very much and I loved you. My spirit will always be with you, and no matter how deep my sleep, my grateful heart will always remember you.”
