To be like Max

What I really looked forward to today was coming home and seeing if Journals Editor Jeff had posted the intro and link to my journal at the AOL People Connection Page.

I almost laughed when I saw myself there!

Then I chuckled because it made me laugh!

The week prior to posting the Guest Editor Six Picks, I had been worried about other people reading my journal, afraid for the world to take a peek at my life. Afraid they would find it boring, irrelevant, or trivial. That they would criticize it, make fun of it, or even disregard it as pointless and a waste of time.

But it hasn't been like that at all. Even more surprising was the increased number of comments I received as of yesterday when I first posted the entry. That was pretty cool to see as well.

If you are a first time visitor, welcome! I've been waiting for you with a little nervousness, but now I'm glad you are here. If you'd like to leave a link, please do.

Thank you all, those J'Landers who come regularly, even if you don't leave a comment. I do read all of your comments, but I don't always respond to them. From what I've been reading lately, you all have the same problem as I do: journaling consumes a significant chunk of time.

Last month, when I wrote the entry just after returning from the mountains, where I had fled as on a retreat seeking solitude, I had decided it was time to clear out the clutter from my drawing room and my heart, to make room for something deeper and more meaningful.

I came back appreciating the simple life. When I say simple, I mean free of technology. At the mountain cabin, which belongs to friends of mine, I had no telephone, my cell phone didn't work, and I did not turn on the television or the radio the entire time I was there. Relative to my daily routine, that was solitude.

A few days later, a lotus flower in our little bog-like remnant pond became a sign and a reminder of new life rising up out of the mud. It was an encouraging sign a few weeks before the school year was to start.

There is no doubt that the wonderful technology designed to make life simpler for us is sapping up all of my free time. Mainly the computer.

I hinted, in my journal, that my journal habits would have to change. I still think they do. I need to modify them, so my life can be balanced once more. Ironic that this decision comes at the time I am asked to be a Guest Editor.

Even Max knows what to do when he has some free time!

to all my J'land friends, and to those from other lands, for making journaling an interactive experience!

Bea

I like Max's idea, too...  I often feel my journal isn't "reader worthy" material.  Sometimes I feel like I share too much, and other times not enough.  It's truly a balance, and I often choose to write how I feel that particular day.  Your journal is a lovely mixture of many thoughts and experiences shared, and it is truly one of my favorites!  Enjoy your three day weekend!  Michelle

Bea, your journal is one of my favorites, and I love that when I come here it's like coming to a warm and cozy home, with a fire place and a big easy chair.  I learn things about love... about life.. about nature.. and about God.  I come here and I learn.. and I love it.  You teach, and don't even realize you are doing it.. and I don't think your reader realizes it, until they are done reading your entry, and walk away having learned something new.  You are never boring.  I am so glad that I found you here in JLand..  You are one special lady, with a very special gift!!

Hugs,
Jackie

Congratulations and thank you! … I’m looking at congratulations and thank you in the same sentence and wondering if that is proper usage. <grin> After all you are a teacher FIRST! .. In my pre-cat life before marriage I had a miniature schnauzer, Anya. … “Balance” is a journey worth beginning.

Bea,
I hope this does not mean that you are thinking of leaving J'land. I would miss you. So please stay even if you don't visit that often. Journalling does take up time. Writing, reading comments, replying to them (I don't always reply to all of them either, although I try), reading other's work and leaving comments. But for me, as a writer, it is all good practice, and fascinating getting to know how other people's minds work. But I know what you mean - sometimes it would be better not to switch the PC on,
Kate.

Bea...yours was one of the first journals I read when I started my own little journal.  I believe Barb or Barbara was kind enough to link me in their own journal and soon you were reading and commenting too.  I needed those comments so bad!  :)

Journaling has been very difficult for me the past month.  Nothing going on except the turning of the world and this thing we call life.  Too many things to attend to before I can come to this place of safety called J~land.  I haven't posted as I'd like, but I can't stop reading the journals that mean so much to me.

You will find balance.  And I pray that you find resting time like Max.  :)

Hugs,
Gwynn

Congrats (again) Bea!  I understand that need for balance.  I also understand the whole technology dilemma.  I have a Love/hate relationship with technology...I always say.

Anyway, you have a wonderful journal.

Hi Bea - you deserve being the Guest Editor. Your journal is always so interesting to read. I love the references you make to everyday things around us - things we don't often stop to think about. Thanks for being my inspiration! Love, Caroline

Thanks for the welcome to your journal!  I'm sure I'm not the only one that is happy they've found you.  It's going to take a while, but I am trying to catch up on your journal to see what I've been missing.  I've got you on alerts now, so at least I will be current with the new entries.

I can so relate to your comment on the mountains.  I have often found solitude and comfort in the mountains, it is an opportunity to recharge myself and put things into perspective.  Other than the ocean, the mountains are about the only thing you can find these days that doesn't have the evidence of human inhabitation on every square inch.

Your journal is anything but boring, or any of the other negative things you said.  People are going to read because it's interesting, informative and fun!  They just didn't know you were here, until now! :)

Bea,

Thanks for visiting my Country Living Southern Style journal.  I know what you mean about the computer.  I work on it all day and then I want to read all the journals in J-land all night.  I have had to cut way back on my journal reading.  ::sigh::  I have met so many nice people in J-Land and formed some friendships that I know will last.  I sooooo need some solitude in my life right now.  It seems to be going to hell in a hand basket.  I will have to visit your picks when I get a moment here and there.

Blessings!~
