I won!! Thank you Kira!

                                                                                   I WON!!!

Kira selected my entry about Operation Turtleblog. Of the three paintings she is giving away as prizes, I am to receive one of them. There were only thirty-five entrants... I counted them.

I am thrilled! ... I don't win things very often, but then, I don't often enter contests so chances of me winning anything are nearly nil.

What a surprise to come home today and find an email congratulating me that mine was the winning entry... Thank you, Kira!! And in advance, a big thank you to little Koopa who will be painting the piece. I have a liking for abstract art, as well as for realism, impressionism, and cubism. Some of my work has been realistic, some has been abstract. There's a place for just about any kind of art work in my house... the only criteria is that it appeals to me (and/or my husband).

The energy and color in Koopa's and Kira's collaboration is appealing to me.

I've got to send in my color preferences, some design patterns, or words that Kira will draw or write across the canvas... I need to choose a few color combinations that won't make muddy brown when Koopa crawls across the canvas, his turtle toes imprinting scratches through the wet paint, mixing and blending them with a final touch of his turtle tail, leaving a wake of turtle twists and swirls of tempting tones.

Kira is a color theorist, so I may leave some of the color decisions up to her. She asked me to consider the room I would be hanging the painting, and send a picture of it to her to help her make the decision.

She wrote:

"The first thing I need from you is the background color so I can get the canvas primed and sanded for Koopa to use.  After that, you can decide on the layout and colors you want Koopa to paint with.  Names, words, dates, phrases, simple symbols, etc. are all fine as long as they fit on the canvas.  You can also leave the layout up to me if you want.  My area of expertise is color theory so if you have a set of colors you want to use, I can lay them out strategically so Koopa won't blend them to form brown."

Here is a link to one painting that Koopa created with all of his little self, and lots of paint, called Procrastination:

Here is a link to one of the Galleries of sold paintings (there are four of them):

And just to show you that the artistic duo have a great sense of humor, I'm posting one of their videos from YouTube. Well, I thought it was cute.

Now, let me go think about my prize and what colors I want Koopa to mix and blend via Turtle toes and tail!

You just live right Bea!!
You know what would happen
if the Turtle walked across MY canvas?
He'd be too late, or take a wrong turn, or drop dead right
at the edge of the canvas.

Actually, the truth is the opposite. Not only
did the turtle show up, he came early, he and a hundred and nine others leaving what looked like the Speedway
circuit on a muddy night.

Shhhhh...let me whisper: Are you gonna tell
visitors the work is your own? I would, then have a giggle
later with my spouse. Of course I pray your husband
wouldn't be your co-conspirator.

I am so happy for you that you won.  You deserved this and those little children you teach are so going to benefit from it.  A huge congratulations.  In Atlantic City, NC I took my kids to the beach for a week and we went out at about midnight to watch many hatching and crawling into the sea.  The people were there who protected the eggs and educated the crowd which consisted of my and my children and the lady and her child who I'd came with.  A forever memory.

Congratulations again.  Sounds like your talent and God's favor were with you.

"Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.

When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;..."

Isiah 43:2-3a

Good grief Charlie Brown, is Isiah the Old
Testament? It reads a bit like bribery?!
Seriously.

I've been out to lunch.

Barry, thank you for bringing that up! That one verse, which I leave as a quote in my sidebar, does come from the Old Testament... they are the words spoken by God to the great prophet Isaiah who spoke them to the people of Israel about 700 BC. My study Bible says Isaiah spoke and wrote to the nation in Jerusalem mostly. He was a fearless prophet, bringing a message of God's judgment against the nation of Judah if they did not turn from their sin. His people didn't like many of the things he told them because of his warnings of punishment for their sins (ie: exploiting others, drunkenness, being proud of their sins, having immoral standards, being vain of wisdom, denying justice to the innocent... chapter 5:9-30).  However, he also spoke/wrote words of forgiveness, hope, and consolation for his people (chapters 40 - 66). I find the same message of forgiveness, hope, and comfort when I read this passage (43) ... every time I read it. In particular, it gave me comfort and hope during some pretty difficult times. Bribery?... I don't see it in that context, but a promise, yes! The Book of Isaiah is rather long (66 chapters), riveting and wonderful in content, especially his prophecies of the Messiah, whom he described as a suffering servant and sovereign Lord, whose coming he described 700 years earlier! Try reading it in the context of his times... that's how I read the Book first. Then I glean it for how it is intended for me, one who bears His name, Christian. In a world that is filled with sorrow, suffering, sin, and selfishness, I need to hear words of hope and forgiveness, promise and grace... and I need to be part of making the wrongs righted. I hope this helps you understand how that short passage impacts my life, and why I keep it in my sidebar. I would hope it could bring some encouragement to another who is oppressed or wronged by another, or group others. : - ) bea

Congratulations Bea! I haven't read any journals lately so I didn't know about this. I can't think of anyone better to win this prize. I know that you will appreciate it more than many others. How wonderful - please post a picture of the painting when you get it. I hope you are feeling better!  Nice to have a long weekend to recuperate. Luvya ~  Caroline  ~
