Oops!

Oops! It's almost midnight, and I said I'd write a journal entry every day.

I almost forgot, and I don't know if I can get this in time to beat the deadline for one entry a day.

I spent some time with my friend and her daughter... we had a lovely lunch at Wholly Guacamole... all of us agreed that we had eaten too much. Neither of us could finish what we had ordered, although the food was great. Mostly, we were more interested in having some quality time with friends, so afterward there was some time spent browsing through the mall.

Amazingly, the teen-aged daughter (turned 13 this year) practiced a new discipline her wise mother had taught her recently: that when she (her daughter) had some money, and she knew she needed to save that money for something bigger down the road, she should walk out of the store where the clothes/jewelry/ whatever was calling out to her to "Buy Me!" Later on, she could return to the store, and if she still thought the item was something she had to have, she would have a chance to reconsider. The theory being that with time and space between her and the desired object, she would lose the urge to make a spontaneous purchase. "Just walk away," is the mother's sage advice.

I saw her walk out of several stores just because the temptation to buy something became so great. She walked away from shoes, clothing, and colognes. I admired the level of maturity she showed as she practiced this new self-discipline, well on her way to acquiring a good habit in money management. Actually, it influenced my shopping today, as well, and I walked away without spending as much as I could have on things I didn't need.

Thank you, Marlene! You were a good influence on me today.

I had some highlights put in my hair today but I really don't see that it looks much different than what I had before I had highlights put in my hair. I did ask for subtle highlights, though. I can't see the back of my head clearly enough to say for sure. My husband didn't notice the difference. He was pretty blunt about it. I'm going to ask my girlfriendtomorrow ... she'll give me good feedback, something I can work with.

I worked out at the gym twice this week... those ab crunches are gonna kill me. I'm trying to give myself a new look for the new school year. That's why the highlights in my hair today. It'll all come together in August.

It's almost midnight (whew, that was close!), so I'm going to end this entry now. Will try to have more substance tomorrow. Today was a rather lazy day for me... I did bake two peach cobblers this evening from scratch.  I'll probably freeze one. The other is to make my husband smile.

(Sigh)...there was a time when I didn't have to bake to make him smile.

<grin>

Mmm.....peach cobbler.  I bet they are delicious!  I need to get my hair done again.  I have not been since before Christmas.  It's getting far too long now and needs some type of colour badly!

I wondered if you were going to get one in before midnight! :)

Wow, that's incredible discipline for a teenager. So few people--young, old, or in-between--today just don't seem to grasp the concept of delayed gratification.

Is Wholly Guacamole a STORE?  I know you can buy their products on line, but didn't realize they had places to eat?  Where is it?  Is this a chain of stores?

Thanks :)  Have a wonderful 4th of July :)

Hi Bea, I love the idea of an entry a day.  I need to get my butt in gear and just get back to doing entries.  I started out with subtle highlights and just kept getting bolder and bolder.  LOL...men are so brutally honest most times.  Anyway, my mom always said the way to my dad's heart was food, and he loved his deserts.  Enjoy your summer!  Chris

I understand that one completely.
If it wasnt for my wife and her discipline about money, we would have nothing.
I am 48 years old, and money still burns a hole in my pocket...

Well done on making the deadline. We don't want excuses if you miss any. You know - the dog ate my entry, etc. ;O)

Personally, I struggle to make an entry a week so I'm very impressed.

An entry a day would be very difficult for me in the summer. Just too many other things that call out for my undivided attention, so I'll just plod along at my usual snail's pace, lol. But - I'm so very glad that you've taken the plunge. I may not comment as frequently as every day, but I most certainly will enjoy reading your entries as often as I can find the time. That peach cobbler sure sounds yummy right about now. Can't wait to see "the new you" in August, too. And, I wish you and yours a wonderful July 4th holiday.
Always, Rose~*

Well, it sounds like you had a lot of fun at the mall.  I usually don't have much trouble abstaining from buying because I really do hate to shop and I hate to spend money.  But that's an exercise in self-discipline that I'd like my kids to learn!

My daughter has gotten wonderful at avoiding impulse spending. Whenever she goes out she only keeps so much money on her, knowing that is all the money she has she isn't likely to spend it in one place or at all. She practices this in her marriage too. All the money from her and her husband go into the bank, with a small allowance allotted for each of them (which isn't much, but they want to pay off thier car and buy a house)...I'm amazed at the wisdom and strength she has found in her adulthood. I've always lived with a small income, so buying wisely came easy to me. Guys rarely notice things like our hair or even attitude, as long as they have food, clean clothes they are generally happy.
