Since we are capable of change and modifications, the future will be in many ways only as good as we have the courage to make it.
June Tapp (b.1929) American Psychologist and Writer
When I found this quote, it reminded me so much of what Martha (lifes2odd) at Just Visiting had written in her journal earlier today, so this is my journal response to it. The quotes are very similar indeed! If you haven't read her entry today, check it out. I find it curious that I would find this quote without even looking for it. I call it synchronicity.
How did I chance upon it? In my paper journal, Turning Points. The page I opened to and set my pen down upon had that quote printed at the top of the page.
Tell me that's not a message to pay attention to! If this seems to be a message for you, maybe you are at a turning point.
The Turning Points journal is a journal book (that's the actual title printed on the cover) where I write in at least once a year to record something that is a turning point for me. This year, that turning point was when I transferred to another school. I didn't really want to leave, but I felt the need to leave, and now, looking back already, I see that it was about changing my future, and the future of others.
Turning points don't have to involve a good event. What it does involve is changing your direction, allowing something new to happen in your life, thus changing your future, and perhaps those involved with you (friends, family, co-workers, students, etc), for the better.
Do you have a turning point in your life right now, maybe that you haven't recognized as a turning point?
Would you write about a recent turning point in the comment section? Or, write about it in your journal and come back and leave a link.

Actually... several months ago I met someone from JLand that completely changed me. Not that I was bad or good before, but I see things in a different perspective now. More innocent, more sincere. Made me look deep within me and find something that had gotten buried long ago. Turning point? Hell yes!

I saw the quote in the "Just Visiting" Journal and it really touched me. Now your quote. Makes me thing. Turnings Points? Each day there is change in our family and our business. These changes include kids getting older and planning for college and me and hubby planning to move to a warmer climate. This will happen soon I hope. That would definatley be a turning point I would love. :)

I love that quote too...the turning points I hate are the ones that alter your life in a negative way....but in light of this quote....it definately is about hope....and moving forward

Turning points!? The big ones are
too sensitive to post here. Nowadays
I can't trust AOL sites because AOL has
given up on enforcing TOS. That, and
AOL's ever-expanding machinery for
advertising increases my disaffection.
Mild turning points include making the
decision to father another child regardless
of my age. You might not believe the savage
attacks levelled at me for making that
decision. Another: to more actively pursue
my Christianity, and to allow noone, not
even a priest, to give me orders. My
'orders' come from the New Testament.

Those turning points are something aren't they?!! I think it's a bit funny that I was about to say "Our turning points are fate" after both of our quotes say our paths are up to us. Maybe it's all more about the journey being our choice than it is the destination.
Talk about synchronicity -- I am in the same turning point you are. I had a job that I really loved but changed schools (It's a long story) but the change, as much as I dreaded it has been fantastic! I am SO glad that I made the decision I made!
Thanks for mentioning and linking my journal.
Martha :-)
I have a big turning point in my life, and that's the loss of my job, and trying to find another. That's about it. Where it takes me, once I find one, is any ones guess, but I'm willing to give it a try. In the beginning I thought I would never be able to stand the fact that I was no longer working at the hospital. Over the last few months, I've come to realize that maybe it is a "turning point" and I need to go with it, and see where it leads me.
Great entry, Bea.. :)

When I look back on my life I can see that my life has been a series of decisions, some good, some not so good, and the consequences of those decisions I have made...also some good and some not so good. I have come to understand at this late date that the decisions we make today affect all of our tommorrows. We must live with that. 8 years ago I made the decision to follow the conscience of my heart and join a church that my then husband had vehemently opposed for the whole of our married life. I got to the point in my life where I realized that my life was my onw life and not someone else's to control on their whim....that decision ultimately cost me my marriage, my home and my family...but I gained back all the self respect I had lost during a 22 year abusive and controlling relationship with someone who really had no respect or real love for me anyways. Love isn't about control...it's about allowing the other person to be the very best person that they can be. The results of that decision are not so much my losing anything, but in gaining a life that was lost and almost destroyed. My children learned that I was not a subservient woman that did "what she was told2 but a woman who was not afraid to stand up for what she believed no matter the consequence. I am the sum of all my experience, good or bad and I like who I am. It took making a strong decision to find out who that was. A turning point as it were.

Turning points - that is worth thinking about. I'll go so far as to say that you will always be making choices. And even if you don't make a choice, it still counts as such. Not doing something is also making a choice. There is no such thing as indecision. The trick is not to look back at past decisions which cannot be reversed. Look forward.
I saw this in D's journal and jumped on it. Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Bea, This is such an incredible entry, and powerful. It really makes you think. Now I see what Donna meant. I'm glad I clicked on your link, and I'll be back. My life is full of turning points, but I have too much going on in my head right now to get into any of them. Stop by my journal if you'd like. I'll be sure to let you know if I make a turning point entry.
Hugs, Mandy ~
thanks Bea!
umm I'm having friends experience incredible losse and illness at this time and I'm very greatful that I know them. It's a bit tough at the moment though.
love,nat
Very well written, Bea... A turning point ~ how frightening at times, to make that tenative step to turn a corner down a different, yet unavoidable path. I like your idea of having such a journal, to record such a step. I hope you will always look back at your own turning points with a smile. Hugs, Michelle
I'd have to fall into the "choice" column of comments. Except I find it more dynamic. An ever evolving pattern of choices vs a pivotal point in time.

I'm stuck on *potential* turning points right now. - Karen
