Well, one of them.... I was stunned at the number of categories, but you know, books and movies come in so many genres and sub-genres, it's no surpise that journals and blogs have so many as well.
Jackie, of HopeFloats, is maintaining the VIVI AWARDS Journal. The way I understand it, there is a committee that gets the VIVI AWARDS going each year, but I'll be honest so I won't appear ignorant. I didn't know much about last year's awards even though I was journaling at the time. I sort of skipped over anything that had to do with VIVI, and I didn't have as many folks on alerts then as I do now. In other words, I didn't get the news, I wasn't in the circle, I was out of the loop!
But over the past year, I have added other journals to my alerts, and so I came to learn about the VIVI AWARDS.
I also discovered, while writing in the journals I enjoyed reading in the various categories, that my name was offered up for nomination as well.
Was I pleased as punch? Well, I have to admit, it brought a smile to my face. I didn't jump and dance in celebration like our friend from UK, DavetheSod at Mish-Mash. But I did celebrate with him as he shared his news with his two toddlers and wife on a video he made. Dave was nominated for Best Video Journal.
Go by and check his entry out right now and it will bring a smile to your face.
Then browse on down to his entry about his babies for another funny video, his October 17 entry. I'm not sure what he's trying to say about Auntie Emma. She's cute, but what is she doing in that video? And why is he putting that on the internet for the whole world to see?
Anyway, I think I've piqued your curiosity, and that's what I'm trying to do to get you to hop onover to Dave's journal. Now.
Okay, Dave, I'll email you my address so you can send the check in the mail like we agreed upon.
<grin> just kidding.
So, how happy was I? Well, I don't have a picture from today to show you, but here's one from my files that looks like me happy and celebrating:
It was taken during the summer of 2005 while I was at a teacher workshop in Pisgah Forest in North Carolina. We were learning a game/activity about trees that we could teach the kids for science. Each of us was given a role to play as a part of the tree...
I believe I was a piece of bark, spreading my arms to reach around the imaginary trunk. Other teachers were the roots, the limbs, the leaves, the sap, etc. We each had been assigned a sound and motion to make, and on cue, we would do our little part. There were about 35 of us there, making up that tree, swaying, creaking, flowing, and making all sorts of noises to bring that tree to life.
And now, like a joke told poorly, I can't remember what we did with that activity ... you know, what the point of it was. I'm sure I took notes, but I don't have them with me and my memory fails me. Probably about photosynthesis, or the life of a tree, or how all the parts of the tree are essential to the tree as a whole. Yeah, something like that.
I think.
Anyway, that was my happy face. I felt that way yesterday when I got the email saying I had been nominated!
WoooHooo! Thank you for the nomination for Most Educational! And while you are in the mood for reading journals, why not go to the VIVI AWARDS JOURNAL and check out the fine nominations so you can participate.
If you want to participate. Any AOL member can cast a vote. You don't have to be a journaler.
BTW: Voting Polls open on November 2nd when we can cast our final vote. This is where you will go to cast your vote on that day: http://viviawards.bravehost.com/firstround.html .

Congrats on your nomination from a fellow nominee! Good Luck!!!

Ditto with the other comments about you nomination. Some people put a lot of work into their journals and learn technical expertise that awes me as I really want to learn computer programming but do not have the concentration at the moment. Others have gotten out of the 'loop' so to speak due to the infamous advertising promoted on the AOL American journal pages. I nominated just such a person's this year ( my first year voting ) as she is a fantastically dedicated person with a fantastic journal. Everyone gets something out of the competition which is just a fun thing and not overly serious. Your journal has such important and relevant subject matter and you should be nominated for your wonderful effort. Great teachers make great students! mark
And a well deserved nomination it is!! Dave's video journal is a hoot. I'll have to check out the Auntie video... Enjoy your weekend! Michelle

Looks like we are nominated in the same category Bea - Education! I am pleased too. It is a great way to celebrate what we all do in J'land. I've only been here for seven months but I feel like part of one big happy family.
